This module is all about getting oriented to the new Snap theme and Common Course Format template. The Snap theme is a new look and feel for Moodle that can dramatically improve the learner experience. The CCF is a framework and template for you to use; it allows you to more easily design effective, great looking courses in Snap.

    Your tasks in this module

You have four pages to read , some videos to watch, and a small activity to complete.

    • Read the Overview pages. These give a high-level introduction to the Snap theme and CCF.
    • Watch the videos on the Snap Basics page. These will show you how to perform basic course editing tasks in Snap.
    • Explore the Using the Text Editor page. The Snap theme gives your content much more room to breathe. You can do a lot to enrich the documents, links, forums, etc, you are putting in your course with text, images, and video.
    • Complete the Course Set-Up Assignment activity.
    • Watch the Up and Running With the CCF Video

  • Using Moodle Activities Effectively

In this module, you will learn some methods of leveraging Moodle learning activities for assessing student work in a time-efficient and consistent manner. We'll be focusing on Discussion Forums and Assignments in particular.

As you explore the Forums and Assignments pages, I would encourage you to practice creating these types of activities in your Sandbox Course.

When you finish with the Assignment and Forum pages, you'll need to complete an activity exercise in which you will get practice with the Bulk Download/Upload of submission files. If you like to add feedback to student work (for example adding Comments or using Track Changes on Word documents) this can be a huge time-saver.

Finally, you will be taking a short quiz. The purpose of this is to solidify the information you learn in the exercise, and to allow you to see what taking an online quiz in Moodle is like from a student perspective.

    Your tasks in this module
    • Explore the Forums page - be sure you understand how to use Ratings
    • Explore the Assignment page - be sure you understand how to grade student submissions with a rubric
    • Optional - Look at the Supplemental Resources for info on how to get more out of Office 365 by syncing cloud documents and Outlook calendars to Moodle. There is also a link with info on how to configure Moodle activities for students to work collaboratively in groups.
    • Complete the Bulk Download/Upload Activity
    • Take the Upload/Download Quiz

  • Enhancing Learning With Media and Collaboration Tools

In this module you will be exploring some technology tools that can enrich your hybrid online course by allowing you to create instructional videos, facilitate multimedia discussions, or hold synchronous web chats and conferences.

    Your Tasks in this module

Choose one track to explore and learn more about. You DO NOT NEED to go through all of the tracks:

    • Explore: Go through the content in your track. You don't to watch every video, but you should be getting an idea of how the tool works and what you might be able to do with it in your teaching.
    • Create: Try out the featured tool. The requirements to complete this project are intentionally loose. The idea is just to create a quick demo artifact (VoiceThread, CaptureSpace) or experience (Skype for Biz) so you can get an idea of how the technology works and to begin thinking about how you might incorporate it into your teaching, not necessarily to end up with a usable product.
    • Reflect: Post in the Technology Tools Reflection forum.
